Comments Off Lorac Front of the Line Pro Eyeliner
Next to red lipstick, cat eyeliner is probably my favorite way to make a statement with makeup. And like red lipstick, its always a classic, but you really have to own it to pull it off. I especially like it this summer with a bare face – maybe with a little concealer and a cream highlighter, or a shimmery bronzer to give the skin a glow. I even like the way it looks without mascara. Just a bold line for a really clean, daring look. Its sexy and glamorous, but it still says,”I’ve got better things to do than stand in front of the mirror for hours”.
Lorac’s Front of the Line Pro eyeliner surprised me with its ease of application. Even for a professional, getting a perfect cat eye is a little challenging, but this really was a cinch. Its also really, really black, and once its on, it stays there until you decide to take it off. Bummer, therefore, that it only comes in two colors, black and brown. Hello? I’d love to see it in a vibrant sapphire blue and maybe a deep violet or a shimmery graphite. All products, including this one, should be spot tested for sensitivities. Available on the Lorac website, and at Sephora. $22.
Comments Off Good, Inexpensive Lipstick

People are always asking me to recommend drugstore brands that perform well. I know we all want a bargain, but other than mascara, I have not been impressed with the general quality of drugstore cosmetics. There was an exception. The Swedish brand Isadora was sold at Walgreens once upon a time, albeit at a price point a little higher than the other brands, but the quality and color choices were worth seeking out. Alas, I have not been able to find it for years. Having said that, I recently went into Sephora to find a specific color requested by a client for her latest resort collection, and I stumbled upon the Sephora Collection lipstick line. Its a few more dollars than what you’ll find at your local pharmacy, but the quality surprised me. The texture of the cream lipsticks is gorgeous, and they are right on trend with the colors. I’m always looking for a good neutral nude beige gloss color (they are surprisingly difficult to find) and I discovered more than one. Pictured from left to right: Lip Attitude Star in Funky Beige, Rouge Cream Lipsticks in Mr. Lover and 1st Night, and Lip Attitude Glamour in Brown Illusion, which would be a perfect neutral on a deeper toned skin. All products, including this one, should be spot tested for sensitivities. Available at Sephora. A very reasonable $12.

Walking south on Hudson St. this afternoon, I was struck by the elegant, relaxed lines of this man’s bearing, and photographed him in situ. An inspiring example of casual, effortless style.
Comments Off Leonor Greyl Huile De Magnolia
A few days ago the people at Leonor Greyl sent over some products for me to try. I’m still working through them, but I instantly fell in love with this rich, decadently scented, multi-purpose oil. According to the “directions for use” on the back of the bottle, the product can be used on face and body for after-sun, to soothe after hair removal, or as a makeup remover and facial oil. When I first inhaled it’s delicious scent, I immediately pictured myself walking the beach at dusk on an exotic equatorial island, skin tanned and glowing, a white flower in my slicked back hair. Yes, its that amazing. A tiny bit leaves your skin silky-smooth, and the scent lasts for hours. All products, including this one, should be spot tested for sensitivities. $47.
