For me, one of the most pleasurable things about shopping for vintage clothing is to imagine the original owners and contemplate what their lives may have been like. I find it fascinating to have this arcane relationship with people whom I’ve never met, which in an esoteric way, I suspect is not as random as one might think.
I bought this three quarter sleeve coat for about four dollars at a second hand shop in my neighborhood, which sells clothing by the pound. I’m intrigued by the construction and the pinked edge of the inner breast pocket. I’ve only seen this sartorial detail once before on a woman’s vintage bespoke suit. But what particularly stands out for me is the orange monogram on the inside left lapel, which contrasts so beautifully with the coat’s charcoal grey color and it’s black satin lining.
